Paintings, 1990-1996

In these paintings, the focus is on the relationship between inside and outside, background and subject matter, space and figure. Monochromatic surfaces alternate with more gestural pictorial renditions and central, large-scale, human figures alternate with multifaceted compositions where the human form is confronted with a nondescript and out of scale space, an indefinable monochromatic world. Gradually, the interest moves to the surface itself and its materiality, through the introduction of various inscriptions and traces on the canvasses.
