Strata, 2016-18

digital collage, collage

Waiting-to-be places. As the road unfolds, monumental buildings under construction and disdained shrines, appear. Both in town and in the countryside, fragmented material, piles of debris, ancient marbles, old and contemporary ruins, run-down edifices, put together a suspended, groundless world. But interweaving is not possible anymore. Here, geological and archaeological sections do not organize, they rather dismantle any hierarchy and coherent history through the simultaneous juxtaposition. Heterogeneous layers, as if they were text lines, speak an unknown language. What would one retrieve from the dense accumulations of the strata?
